Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool should face a tough test when they face stubborn Ligue 1 opposition Toulouse on Thursday.
Liverpool vs Toulouse Preview:
Jurgen Klopp is expected to make as many as 11 changes when Liverpool plays host to Toulouse in the Europa League at Anfield.
We’ve seen in previous rounds that the Reds have the strength in depth to ring the changes and still get a result, but Toulouse are no mugs.
The plucky French side have lost just two games so far this season, both on their travels, and have made a flying start to their Europa League campaign.
As well as beating LASK and holding Union to a draw in Belgium, they can also boast an impressive 1-1 draw against French champions PSG.
Carles Martinez’s side look like they have the tools to shut up shop and frustrate their hosts on Thursday, so it might be a tad ignorant to write them off because they’re an unknown quantity.
The French side have held nine of their 11 opponents to one or fewer goals this season and 16 of 19 dating back to April.
As resilient as they look, Liverpool tend to find a way through. They’ve won all six of their home matches by a two-goal margin.
On the other hand, it’s notable that it’s taken them until the 85th minute or later to put the game to bed in four of those, and they do give away chances.
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Liverpool find a way to win but with the bookies expecting three or more goals and a clean sheet for the hosts, there are plenty of valuable angles.
Liverpool have fallen behind early in 58 per cent of matches this season and pinching an early goal before setting out to frustrate the crowd may be Toulouse’s game plan.
Prediction:
- Liverpool 2-1 Toulouse
- Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score
- Toulouse to score first
